Austen Itch

~ for the itch only Jane can soothe ~

We take our Austen seriously here. But not TOO seriously.

A word from our sponsors

Quotation Itch
"A fool and her money are soon courted."
Helen Rowland

"A life spent making mistakes is not only more honorable but more useful than a life spent in doing nothing."
George Bernard Shaw

"I don't mind being old so much as I mind being fat and old."
Benjamin Franklin

Manners and Morale

Welcome to Austen Itch! We are glad to have another Austenophile in our midst.

Feel free to scroll down to the Forum Section and introduce yourself. If you are creatively inclined, put up a picture and caption on the blog. You can also customize your own page so that you have just the right feel of things when you visit.

We are also encouraging you to get in touch with your Inner Austen Character. If you feel a strong connection to one of the ladies or gentlemen created by Miss Jane, you can create a new account with that name and picture. Once an identity (or picture) is taken, it can't be taken again. So, find a different picture and change the name slightly: Wickham, II or Darcy, Secundus, or JaneB. Keep the name as close to that of the character as possible. (This is an experiment, and if we find it unmanageable, we will go back to being ourselves.)

In deference to the title of this section, morale is kept high when we all mind our manners. As I am sure you will. Though we will be allowing aliases, we will be depending on users to approach this with the right spirit of fun, and not use it as an excuse to behave poorly. Besides, who really wants to be a part of the Brawling Austen Board?!?

All-in-all, we look forward to getting to know you all and exchanging views and ideas and a few laughs.

What's Up?

A new discussion board, Jane Started It! is up HERE.

The conversation is directed mostly at present towards Laura Louise's hilarious and thought-provoking summer read: Mercy's Hard Bargain, but will include discussion about Barbara Cornthwaite's Emma FF, Charity Envieth Not, news about Pamela Aidan's, Young Master Darcy, and Susan Kaye's soon-to-be-released, For You Alone.

And, of course, we will discuss anything Austen related just for the fun of it!

Drop by Jane Started it! and say, "HI."

On Pleasure Bent

Laura Louise and I are off for our annual meeting of the Crown Hill Writers' Guild. Much tea will be consumed, regardless of the heat. And, we will talk endlessly.

As the pictures shows, we will be taking a public conveyence. Since neither of us keep a manservant, we will have to fend f… Continue

Book vs Film - Pride and Prejudice

I'm currently re-reading Pride and Prejudice and so pleased to find many nuggets of additional information that are not in the excellent BBC film version. It's been a very long time since I've read the book, but much more frequently and recently that I've seen the film. What a pleasure to find more detail. I wonder how it will change the story for me again overall. Does anyone have any additional insight they gained from this same comparison?

GEN-TLE-MEN!

Please. Some of us still possess our male attributes, and intend to keep them. Such talk of baths and scents is undermining my ability to do so. KNOCK IT OFF! (Captain Wentworth is on a mission making disguise necessary. Hence the more manly, down-

"Penelope, what IS that noxious odor?"

"And why do you suppose that odious little man is staring at you?"

Patchouli? My dear Mr Darcy, I beg to differ!

My noble patroness, Lady Catherine de Bourgh, has advised that I switch to ylang ylang oil for my baths. Not only does ylang ylang oil normalize sebum secretion, it is a powerful aphrodisiac. Ladies cannot resist! Have you noticed how all heads turn when I enter a room?
